Evangelion .. Introduction

An old favourite - Evangelion is one of the more popular animes, and is quite well known in both Japan and overseas - it consists of a 26-episode long TV series, two movies, and a subsequent manga series, as well as a few games and a lot of soundtracks.

Evangelion is an action/mecha anime, with a bit of human psyche-analysis later in the series. The main character is Shinji; a troubled fourteen-year-old, he is called by his father to defend the human race by piloting a great robot called an Evangelion. This anime is a good example of how popular the mecha anime genre is overseas. Evangelion is also a good anime for those starting out - while some series are too japanese-based for a lot of beginning anime watchers, this one does quite well for new and old anime fans alike... it was the first true anime I ever saw, and got me hooked!
