Fushigi Yuugi .. Introduction

Yet another of my favourite animes - Fushigi Yuugi, the mysterious play. It's one of the longer series I've seen - originally from an eighteen volume manga, it consists of fifty-two TV episodes, as well as three OAV series; of three, six and four episodes respectively. However it maintained the same humour and enjoyable shoujo style throughout the entire series, except perhaps for the final OAV which I thought was somewhat lacking.

Fushigi Yuugi seems a combination of comedy and shoujo style anime, centered around your typical anime-airhead Miaka... After being taken from her own world into another one similar to ancient China, she must save herself, her best friend and the country she is in from destruction - by assembling seven celestial warriors and summoning a god - however not everything goes to plan. The series, while very lengthy, was fun to watch, with some very memorable characters. I'd recommend it as a good watch for most audiences, and beware, it's highly addictive... however for younger audiences, beware some adult themes throughout the series.
